God honks, but his honk is helpful–a warning
Let’s get back to Revelation 15:1. While God would not have had the “honk!” impulse when driving by a contented driver there are limits to his patience, kindness, and long-suffering. He has honked at our sins, and he has helped with them. See, sin does evoke a reaction in him, and eventually wrath comes. Human rebellion cannot be a forever thing and when the time is right God will finish it.
God’s honking at our sins is not to say, “Hey, you idiot, that stuff you doing annoys me so you better quit or else.” God honks to say, “Watch out!” His honking is helping. It is preventative and a warning, both of how our own misbehaviors will wreck our lives and that rebellion ends badly.
Along the road of life God’s honking warns us and to continue the driving analogy a prudent person takes the exit ramp leaving the broad highway of sin. That broad highway though continues on. Eventually all those life-drivers will hit a wall of wrath. Or if you prefer they will come up on the bridge that is out and drive to their eternity off the road into a swollen river below with none to help.
Wrath is not forever
I think that it is important to also see that God’s wrath is not a forever thing. His wrath will draw to a close. John says that with these seven plagues God’s wrath will be finished. So, if you are under a cloud that God is an angry God make sure you have dumped your rebellion at the foot of the cross. Repent of your sins, accept his forgiveness, and realize that in the future, at the time of God’s sovereign choosing wrath will forever disappear. Happily-ever-after will dawn and be just that.
Are slow drivers forever? If so I won’t want to honk at them.
Thinking back to the inconvenience that slow pickup seemed to be giving me I find thoughts of heaven in my head as well. Will there be inconvenience in heaven? Will there be slow drivers? I haven’t the foggiest idea. What I do know is that should there be my innards will not need self-controlled. They will already be perfected by God’s finishing grace. They will exist controlled, exist compassionate, exist at ease with the way the new earth flows. Isn’t that a good thought?
