On the head of Jesus are many crowns. He is Lord of all, all things having been put under his feet. There is no lack of authority in him. He has the master key of all doors and places on his earth and he is coming to reclaim his world for his church, his bride.
He bears a name given him by God the Father which only he knows. I suspect it is connected to the character and relationship he has with God the Father. From a name like this he knows his role and responsibility and the authority from which it is derived. The confidence of Jesus is a God derived confidence.
His robe is marked by blood. That blood has made the armies at his back righteous and it is an ominous sign to those who stand in ready defiance on the earth awaiting his charge.
His moniker, the name by which he is identified, is the Word of God for it is from God’s mouth, his speaking that his intentions are levied. The word is all it takes for truth to ply forth into his enemies. The creation is as solid as truth. Everything that is not truth is ephemeral and will be pinched by it. There is a fictional scene in Lewis’ The Great Divorce where people take a bus ride from hell to heaven. After arriving in heaven they are semi-clear; not very real. When they walk on heaven’s grass its reality hurts their not-so-real feet. When they bend over to look at a flower and the wind blows the long leaves of the plant against them it pinches their ghost-like semi-reality and it hurts them. I think God’s word has a similar effect upon the falsehoods of men. It pinches all that is not real, but that pinch is so powerful that they will be erased from the God-given advantage of reality. They will be pinch-banished into a place where God is not: hell. There will be pain and non-existence in some devastating manner.
Armies of heaven
14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. (Revelation 19:14–ESV)
Who is in the army of heaven? People are. Jesus will lead out those who have died and been taken to heaven. I will leave the speculation out on who this group may or may not be for that sidesteps the importance. The importance rests with righteousness and allegiance. The fine linen represents righteousness and that is a righteousness purchased for them by Jesus whose robe is dipped in blood. This army also is riding upon white war horses.
