Food, water, and health
How many of our prayer requests center on one of these things? Calling out to God in our time of trouble honors him. Right now those prayers are crucial. There is already a river of life flowing to us, around us, through us. No matter what city or nation we find ourselves a part of on the New Earth of God’s final construction these needful things will be there.
Right now may be tough, but things need not be eternally tough.
Right now may be tough, but things need not be eternally tough. Paul even dared to call our present difficulties light and momentary. Take Revelation 22, paint a picture in your mind of what you have read here and then hang it on the wall of your heart. When you are ill-at-ease look up at that provision. Take courage when courage is needed.
Upstream of all of this must be your relationship with God himself. Jesus Christ died on the cross to take away our sins. Until we accept the offer of his salvation, our guilt before God remains. Until that point, there is no hope. The River of Life, the Tree of Life, and the health-giving leaves are not in the future of anyone who has rejected God’s offer. Make sure you are not foolishly hoping for these things. Jesus, who began the book of Revelation with John way back in chapter 1, said that he was the way, the truth, and the life. He appended to that an all-important phrase: no one comes to God except “through me,” meaning by the blood sacrifice of himself. That is why time and again he is called the Lamb of God.
