There is much history surrounding this church and its congregation which dates to before the civil war. The original congregation was Methodist and they built their first church on this plot of ground in 1801. The original building stands in the back of this property and is the oldest church in Augusta, Georgia. In 1844 the original Methodist congregation moved to another church and the current congregation began meeting here. In 1897 the more prominent church building was added. This along with many other downtown structures are part of the wonderful heritage of this city.
