Coming back to verse 2
When Jesus appears we will not be run through some play-dough extruder and pounded into his shape. We will find that life was the play-dough extruder and there we are: like him. We will see him the way he is and in looking back over our life will see how his way was practiced in our life. I think that this will be among the most satisfying things we can know.
Finishing with the third verse
3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. (1 John 3:3–ESV)
Does this verse make sense now? Does the context of the previous paragraphs now feed into this third verse? We must purify ourselves. That effort, that event is the shaping. It requires faith, but it is proper. We know what we are to do. Will we do it?
