The Augusta Canal has had many important roles in the development of this city. For any city to develop its basic needs must be met. Water is crucial for that, and the city’s water supply comes from the canal/river. This is the purpose of 1898 Augusta Waterworks building. The water drawn from the canal is pumped 4.5 miles to the Highland Avenue Water Treatment Plant. That plant is the first major stop of the river water on its way to the homes and businesses of this area. More information on this can be found at the Augusta, Georgia facilities webpage. A schematic of where the water goes after leaving this plant can be seen in this link. I have included a gallery of images taken with a DJI Inspire 1.
