The week I was to present this lesson I was winding toward the end of The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens. As I cruised over page after page Dickens wrapped up person after person. I read of Kit’s release from the pains of Quilp’s injustice. I found out Quilp’s conclusion and the collapse of his co-conspirator’s: Sampson and Sally Brass. It was pleasing to see the bleakness lift as suffering resolved.
There was a problem, however, that continued to raise its head in my mind.
The point I wish to make is that while certain important issues are being wrapped up others are in the wings waiting their turn. While Dickens unfolds events in Kit’s life, grandfather and Nell’s are waiting. In Ephesians, a similar thing is happening. While Paul was writing of amazing things, prayer, the Ephesian’s destiny in heaven along with doctrinal pieces of salvation by grace through faith other things were waiting their turn. A couple of those were: Paul’s incarceration and the mystery of Christ. This lesson will rest upon the imprisoned Paul. That fitment to the mystery of Christ will have to wait till next week.
