If you had an angel’s view that day you would have smiled. The feet before which Jairus fell turned toward the house with the fallen child. Oftentimes the answers of God come in the shape of events. That was how Jesus sought to bolster the doubts of the jailed John the Baptist. Why not here?
God is always present even when you do not realize it.
Jairus was out with his problems and “came upon” Jesus. For Jairus God got off a boat. As Jesus stepped from the sea into that crowd one of God’s priests was struggling. God connected them.
Jesus presents himself how and when he pleases
God is not at our beck and call. He is benevolent. He is aware, able, never missing. Yet his timing, his goals, notions, perfections are his alone given to us in grace. Never let your mind doubt his approach but rather rest that his timing, his manner simply work. You likely will have not notion of how that will unfold. Don’t worry about it. Let him take care of it.
Steps to be taken may not be obvious until they are
For the planners among us that type of thing is hard. We gaze intently at what we think is our future and fantasize (we call it planning) about how this or that should happen. But, into those plans come the vagaries of life. That is what happened to Jairus. His daughter was 12! She was not supposed to be dying, much less die while she was out seeking help. No matter, it happened, vagaries of life. He did not know what to do about his ill child. What was there to do? Who could be called? He knew not, but then while on a walk up showed Jesus and there was the obvious answer.
We are keen, oh so keen, on imagining our future. When in a funk, when blinded by life don’t throw out what you have known of God. His timing simply works. His manner is perfect. Wait for Jesus to get off a boat in front of you…and don’t miss this…with his solution, not yours.
