If you have a Bible background you will probably recall the name of Joash. Would his young age be a barrier for God?
Joash became king in a very difficult time. After his father was shot (arrow during a northern coup) his wicked grandmother went on a prince killing rampage. He was an unwitting one-year-old at the time still matched to a nurse. His aunt spirited the two of them away to the temple where he would be raised by a surrogate dad, a high priest named Jehoiada.
Jehoiada would punch Joash’s ticket overseeing his ascendancy to the throne, the restoration of the Temple, rejuvenation of associated sacred rites and rituals. The priest’s death and funeral is recorded in 2 Chronicles 24 along with the surprising age: 130 at his death. So, extrapolate a little: his work with Joash began while in his late 90’s. Would his great age be a barrier for God?
Throughout the scriptures, we see people like this: their big recorded deeds are late in life things. Add to Jehoiada Abram, Moses, Joshua, and Caleb. You may be able to append even more.
Where are you right now? Are you up in years? Do you think you are past the era of God’s ability? Don’t let that thought rule anywhere in your heart and mind. Will you be a figure that God uses for national revival? Restoration of important things lost? Maybe. Will you, if you are a submitted, willing soul, be used by God in your local world (think family, job, hardware store)? Surely.
What if you are middle-aged? Well, fret that not either. Moses, Abram, Jehoiada had middle-aged times too. That is not where they were used. That is where they were matured, brought to the boil God wanted them at before he pushed the “go now” button.
